Another commission scientific visualisation for the Science Photo Library which involved in experimenting with particle dynamics to represent molecular collision and attraction.

Sodium chloride dissolving. Animation showing the soluble chemical compound sodium chloride (NaCl, table salt) dissolving in water (H2O). This animation shows the chemical at a molecular level. The atoms are shown colour-coded: chloride ions (Cl-, green) and sodium ions (Na+, purple). Water molecules are also shown (oxygen, red; hydrogen white). The water molecules are attracted to the ions, and disrupt the crystal lattice and pull the ions away and into solution. The water molecules are polar, with the hydrogen atoms (positive) attracted to the chloride ions (negative) and the oxygen atoms (negative) attracted to the sodium ions (positive).
